International Church Planting

I’ve just returned from another trip to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

This trip was a unique opportunity to participate in the ordination of not just one pastor, not two pastors, but seven pastors. Eastside Baptist now has before us one of the most challenging days in her history. Four of these seven pastors are looking to Eastside to prepare and partner in a church planting opportunity.

On this coming Lord’s Day, during one of our monthly shared meals, I’ll give a full report on what is going on at New Horizon Home and our church planting work in Haiti. Join me following our morning gathering on this coming Lord’s Day. We will stream and then archive the report if you are not able to join us in person.

Introducing: Sovereign Redeemer Baptist Fellowship

This coming Lord’s Day, Eastside Baptist will begin the actual stepping forward of a new church plant.

We have been praying for this for some time now. Beginning on January 14, 2018, Sovereign Redeemer Baptist Fellowship, SBC will conduct her first service. SRBF will use the meeting house of Eastside Baptist Church located at 204 Eastland Drive North in Twin Falls.

Church planter, Greg Moering, will begin preaching through 1 John at 6:30 p.m.

What can you do?

  • Pray – There is no desire of ours to plant a new church without appealing everything to God. The new church is far from ready to begin, but we are ready to start. Pray for new converts from the fields God has planted us in. Pray for qualified leadership to come from the discipled converts. Pray for gospel advancing strength. Pray for Greg Moering, wife Talia, and children.
  • Attend – In the early days of the new church plant it would be helpful if many agreed to attend, be willing to help assist, commit to praying. It is no desire of Eastside to take believers from other churches to plant a new church, It is our desire to establish a church from among those God calls. In the mean time, help from Eastside and others desiring to partner with us to begin planning to attend, especially in the early months. Would you be willing to commit to 3 months, 6 months, or longer? Spread the word and invite people to come with you.
  • Plant – As we move forward in this, it is likely God may move among some to go with Sovereign Redeemer Baptist Fellowship and assist in the actual planting of the new church body.

ON AIR

This morning I was a guest on News Radio 1310 KLIX.

Take a few moments to listen in on the conversation with Bill Colley. We talked about faith related matters, Burning in the Soul, church planting in Twin Falls, religious liberty, true Christianity, etc…

Meet Greg and Talia Moering

Last summer I received an email that lead to several phone calls, text messages, and general correspondence from a young man in North Carolina inquiring about Eastside Baptist Church. The conversation lead to the awareness of several mutual friends, times of prayer together, and his inquiring of moving his family to Twin Falls some day to consider a church planting apprenticeship.

That likelihood has become more than a possibility. Greg, his wife Talia, and their three children will pack their belongs at the end of this month (May), load up a u-haul truck, and move (back, Talia is from Northern Idaho) west. They will arrive the first week of June and begin the formality of a church planting apprenticeship with me.

Here are some ways you can be praying…

  • School: Greg graduates from Moody Bible Institute this month.
  • the Move: safety and provision for the cross-country trip.
  • Job: Greg needs employment that will allow time to also do ministry.
  • Housing: the family needs affordable housing in Twin Falls.
  • Transition: This is a great distance from family in the South.
  • Clarity: Where to begin a new church/

Eastside, you will have the blessed occasion of meeting Greg, Talia, and their children in June.

Church Planting Lessons from the Strawberry Plant

While my mom was visiting a few weeks ago I built my first “strawberry barrel” (see picture below) out of a 55 gallon drum and she bought me 50 strawberry roots.

After looking for the best variety, I settled on the Ft. Laramie. We ordered them and the waiting began. I looked in the mail every day, even thinking that every UPS truck driving down the street might be carrying my strawberries. Renee called this afternoon… and finally, the strawberries are here!

Strawberry02I ordered my strawberries from the Four Seasons Nurseries, in Bloomington, Illinois.

They came through the U.S. Postal Service with all the instructions. We ordered two packages of 25.

Today, I opened one package and was pleased and surprised to discover nearly 40 strawberry roots. I followed the instructions and now have half of my strawberries planted in my “strawberry barrel”. Because there were more than 25 strawberries in the first package I’ll have to prepare more space for the other 25 (or 40+).

Strawberry01

I’ve grown strawberries before and enjoy the church planting lesson my dad taught me years ago. I’ll keep you posted and lay out the church planting lessons from the strawberry plant along the way.

——————————————–
I’ve just reopened my garden blog that has been dormant for two years. I’ll begin posting regular posts of the new garden space. I began this blog when I started at the College of Southern Idaho’s community garden in 2010. I now have more garden space and now preparing for the start of Thompson Springs Urban Farm. This year is the testing year followed by a second year to implement the most efficient ways to grow a lot of food in an urban setting, in the high desert, before launching Thompson Springs Urban Farm to the public. Until then, and even then, come by the urban homestead some time and pick a few weeds with me.
