Good News Radio

In preparing for the launch of a full feature podcast, I have discovered that I’ve actually already been podcasting since 2010. In May of 2010 Eastside began broadcasting sermons at Sermon Audio. A friend of mine in northern Idaho help me with some podcast questions recently and he was the one who informed me that I’m already podcasting. Kind of like being a poet and not really knowing it. (OK, it’s nothing like that)

In digging through some old archive audio files I came across this interview I gave in May of 2010 to the Good News Radio Network. It is divided into three parts, approx. 9 minutes each. It is an interview I gave the day after Baptist Press released my print interview of our time in Port-au-Prince that same year after the earthquake.  It was a quick trip down memory lane, it was just as I remember it. Hard to believe that those God ordained days are nearly four years ago.

Here is one of those early “podcasts”.

Don’t forget to be looking for the launch of the BridgeCast on January 6, 2014.

Meeting House Bulletin (MHB001)

Over the next few weeks I’ll use this podcast format to fine tune and better discover podcast technology. My trial podcast is called Meeting House Bulletin (MHB) I’ll be hosting this test podcast at archive.org until I’m better informed on podcasting tech.

I’m still working on my main podcast, BridgeCast, to start on January 6, 2014. Until then… listen to and provide constructive feedback on the Meeting House Bulletin.

This Past Week

This past week at theBridge:

Monday, December 10:

  • Do You Love Me: I’ve been told in various settings that there are no dumb questions and no wrong answers. I’ve lived long enough to prove both of those statements wrong. I am still trying to master the art of asking good questions. Here are a few of the good questions… (continue reading)
  • The Gates of Hell Will Not Prevail: I’m not in the habit of reading any of Anton LaVey’s writings. Nor would I recommend them to anyone. In some research for sermon preparation I did read Wikipedia’s bio of LaVey in search of what I understood to be The Nine Satanic statements. They are everything opposed to righteousness or godliness.LaVey, claims that ”Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years!” Satan is not the best friend the (true) Church has ever had. As a matter of fact, Jesus tells Peter; “I will build my church and the gates (or forces) of Hell will not prevail” (Matthew 16:18). (continue reading)

Tuesday, December 11:

  • A House of Prayer or a Den of Thieves?: The Lord says to the church that the gates of Hell will not prevail against her, and yet when is the last time your church had to bring in extra chairs for prayer? Most likely the last time your church had to call in extra chairs was for a concert, block party, preaching service, Christmas Eve service or a pot-luck dinner. But when is the last time the church called on her members to move over and make for more room for the prayer meeting?Charge for a weekend event with a popular speaker and see what may come. They’ll come from far and near. But announce that your church is gathering to ask and seek the face of Christ… and you may be all alone. (continue reading)

Thursday, December 13:

  • the(old)Bridge: Don’t forget that there are archived posts going all the way back to 2006 of theBridge HERE. I will be beginning new recordings of the book of Proverbs to be ready by January 1, 2013 and new recording of my Haiti Journal by February 2013. (continue reading)

Friday, December 14:

  • It’s A Good Day To Be The Church: I’m looking forward to the arrival of the new pastor at NorthRidge Fellowship in Jerome, ID. Jeff Norton and his family are actually en-route to Idaho as I pen these thoughts. I’m looking forward to this brother’s friendship as I have all the men God has brought through this fellowship over the 12 1/2 years I’ve pastored in Twin Falls. May the Lord bless His people with a faithful proclaimer of the Gospel. (continue reading)
  • And They Were In Terrible Distress – (updated): Early this morning, like many of you, I heard the reporting of a shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut. There is little to say about this and offer up much of a thought. I have been in prayer and of a deeply troubled spirit. I’m in wonder about how the surviving children of Sandy Hook Elementary School are doing right now. I’m groaning in my heart for the parents of all. I’m sure the parents of the children who have been massacred are in great, unspeakable pain. May the Lord meet them in their cry of distress. (continue reading)

Podcast Update: I still have much to learn about the uploading of a podcast to theBridge, but I’m making progress on podcast content. Also, this past week, I purchased my first podcasting equipment. I decided on the digital recorder by Roland to be my first purchase. The Roland R-05 was my choice for two reasons. 1) It had a strong review for the price range I was looking in. 2) I could purchase it locally at the Music Center, downtown Twin Falls on Main Street. I could have bought it for about $15 cheaper online with free shipping. I chose to make this purchase a local one though. I have begun looking into a small sound mixer to produce the podcast, but that will come later. I most likely will not be ready for podcast production until the second quarter of 2013.

Two Weeks

Pastor’s Corner Column at MagicValley.com: December 8, 2012

Two weeks with WordPress has stretched me in technology knowledge. I’m not any more the wiser, but I’m certainly pleased with the migration from Blogspot to WordPress. On Saturday’s I will hope to post a weekly review and a few things I’m working on.

Monday, December 3:

  • Squirming in Your Blood: On the day (maybe the very hour) this child was born, she was abandoned. Her navel cord was not properly cut, she was not washed or wrapped in a blanket. When people saw the infant they must have assumed she was dead, for no one even gave her a second look with pity or had compassion for her. (continue reading)

Tuesday, December 4:

  • My ToolBox: I thought I would show you a look inside this pastor’s tool box. These four resources are a ‘must have’ for me. The Lord provided all four of these books through the generosity of his people. I’m Thankful to the Lord for them. (continue reading)
  • How Old Are You?: This question comes up several times a year from the students on my bus. Today, the conversation went down like this… (continue reading)

Wednesday, December 5:

  • In the News: The Intermountain Christian News asked me to write a short article for the December 2012/January 2013 edition about the Utah/Idaho Southern Baptist Annual Meeting. It was published yesterday. This resource is a good place to find out what’s going on in the inter-mountain region of Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Montana, and Wyoming. HERE (page 9) And my monthly column in the Times News will be published this weekend, look for it on Saturday, December 8. (continue reading)
  • Weekly Prayer Guide: Contact Paul Thompson if you would like to have the password to open the Weekly Prayer Guide  (continue reading)

Thursday, December 6:

  • Genius – the Movie: ‎”Churches are filled with people who are strangers to genuine repentance because they’ve never had the law applied to their conscience.” [Ray Comfort]
The Way of the Master has just released a new documentary that is worth the :34 minute view. (continue reading)
Coming in 2013:
I’m working on the details of a weekly podcast. I’ve been reading about how to produce a podcast. I’m working on a format, plan, ideas and topics. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to leave me some ideas. I’m also open to the technical side of things, this is an area of great unknown for me. Until I’m ready to launch this in a format that I am able to feel comfortable with and ready to launch this as a weekly podcast, I’ll just continue reading, learning and preparing.
