Sunday evening, John Martinez gave an examination and history of the hymn, “This is My Father’s World”.

Paul Thompson gave biblical definition of “atonement” from Leviticus 16 and Hebrews 9 and 10.

Tonight John Martinez will give an examination and history of the hymn, “This Is My Father’s World.” (Hymn #43 in the Baptist Hymnal, 1991)

I will address question three of the Baptist Catechism and the biblical meaning of “Atonement.

  • How do we know there is a God?
  • Atonement: Atonement refers to God’s activity which reconciles us to Himself restoring our friendship with Him by removing the guilt of our sin. The work of Christ on the Cross is the means by which God atoned for our sin.
    Definition: Reconciliation, after enmity or controversy (Romans 5). Giving an equivalent for an injury by doing or suffering that which is received in satisfaction for an offense. (Romans 3:23 – “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 – “The wages of sin is death, but…)
