The Key to Family Living

Though “it is not good for man to live alone” (Gen.2:18), the togetherness of the family is not an easy or automatic achievement. All of us are sinners whose natural tendency is toward a self-centeredness which isolates us from each other. The remedy for this is for family members to number themselves below one another, for this is the literal meaning of the Greek word “submit.” Each person is to count the others number one and himself number two, while the others are showing him the same consideration in return. It is a gift from those who love him not a survival of the fittest. Notice too, that Paul stipulates this is to be done “because of your reverence for Christ,” thus making it a Christian duty rather than optional advice.  (Ephesians 5:21)
