As part of my biography project I will include a few chapters on my mother’s parents, Herschel Lester and Marita Pearl Allison or Hershey and Sister Allison as they were known in South America. I recently sat down at the table with my mom and her sisters to hear the story of my grandparents following the Lord, Jesus Christ as he used a child with rheumatic fever to direct their path to a foreign land, learning a new language, leaving comforts, so the Gospel could be advanced in the interior of South America. These hours were filled with laughter and tears, sometimes at the same time.
Oh how I wish I could sit in that house on Buck Street and listen to Mama and Papa speak of the days in Argentina and Paraguay. But this moment at the table was a moment to cherish.
There are no promises from the Lord that if you follow Him everything turns out the way one desires. Their nine years in South America came to a close when a tumor was discovered at the base of “Sister Allison’s” Brain. This may have ended a season of missionary work in South America, but it opened a brand new season of a husband and wife bent to display the glory of God in their greatest adversity in their frail earthly bodies. I can’t wait to tell their story as it shows the power of God and the mercy of God in choosing those who many may think a lost cause.

They achieved every comfort in life but God’s work completed and rounded out their lives for His Glory. They were willing servants. What a Legacy they left for generations of Allison’s to come…..like you!
