A New Sermon Audio Feature

Eastside Baptist Church has been broadcasting sermons for over eight years. Over the past two years we have been live streaming our sermons. All of this by the kindness of God and the generosity of His people.

I’ve recently been contacted by a local radio station to broadcast our Lord’s Day sermons, with a one week delay. I’m still praying about this and waiting for the Lord to give direction on this possibility. This past six months have shown that a consideration to broadcast on a medium other than the internet has proven a need. This need has shown itself expensive. To broadcast online is relatively inexpensive, but to broadcast on the radio, that is more widely available, is very expensive.

The guys at SermonAudio have just made another way for people to listen in this week. To someone with a mobile phone or access to a phone with free long distance you can now listen in with a simple phone call.

Help me spread the word to those unable to attend in person, don’t have a computer, but have a phone.

Here are the details:

  • Dial the free SermonAudio Listen Line .. 712-432-4200
  • Listen and follow the instructions ..
    • Dial 1 for the 24/7 radio stream.
    • Dial 2 to listen to our live webcast on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. (mountain time)

Burning in the Soul: Michael Waldrop

In this ongoing sermon series (the first Sunday night of every month) I’ve asked Michael Waldrop of Desert Ridge Baptist Fellowship in St. George, Utah to come and preach what God has burning in his soul. It is always my hope that people join us on site at Eastside Baptist Church in Twin Falls, Idaho, but I know this may not be possible for everyone wishing to join in. By the kindness of God we have live streaming available for those unable to gather with us in person.

Join us tonight at 6:30 p.m. mountain time

Meet Michael Waldrop

This month during our Burning in the Soul preaching series, Michael Waldrop will be preaching. Michael and his wife, Hope, have been in St. George, UT with their three children, Whit, Jack, and Zoe since March, 2013.

Michael is church planter/pastor at Desert Ridge Baptist Church in St. George, UT. Michael is originally from Randolph, Mississippi.

I have had the privilege of knowing MIchael since moving to St. George and served on the Utah/Idaho Southern Baptist Convention executive board. Michael is committed to the sufficiency of Scripture and faithful proclamation of this truth in one of the most unreached communities in North America.

I hope you will be able to gather with me this coming Lord’s Day evening at Eastside Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. mtn. time.

Here are some recommended books that have influenced Michael.

  • The Holiness of God and Chosen by God by R. C. Sproul
  • The Gospel According to Jesus  by John MacArthur
  • Christ-centered Preaching by Bryan Chapell
  • Brothers, We Are Not Professionals by John Piper.

A Hymn of Thanksgiving

This morning at Eastside Baptist we will examine Isaiah 12, a hymn of thanksgiving.

The Lord has fixed in those He has saved a heart of gratitude. Gratitude is the root of…

  • joy
  • happiness
  • pleasure
  • missions
  • discipline
  • obedience

Gather with me this morning at Eastside Baptist Church, 204 Eastland Drive North, in Twin Falls, Idaho.

To the Law and To the Testimony

“To the law and to the testimony!” Isaiah 8:20

There are many influences competing for our attention. All the more for why we must look eagerly for Christ.

The many influences are swaying us to consult them. They sometimes whisper, they may sing, they may shout, they may laugh their way in, but one thing is consistent, regardless of how they attempt to get our attention, they mumble and mutter so we don’t fully understand what they are attempting to do. The child of God will not knowingly turn a deaf ear to God for good.

The influence we give permission to is the one who will eventually begin to drive our life. If there is no light in the influence, then it is sure that it will drive us with an unsatisfied hunger for more darkness. This is what the Apostle Paul means in Romans chapter 1.

No! follower of Christ, to the law (instructions) and to the testimony.

If you notice a growing dislike of godliness and an interest in not loving God, then there is reason to examine who you are letting influence you today.

Rather, consult the oracles of God and resist consulting the wizards of foolishness. Lear to make good use of your bible.

Here are a few things I shared in my sermon on January 21, 2018 from Isaiah 8:16-22.

What use do we make of our Bibles?

  • Speak according to the Bible
  • Do according to the Bible
  • Make this Bible our standard
  • Conform to the precepts of the Bible
  • Take counsel from the Bible
  • Let the Bible illuminate our paths
  • Let the Bible examine our hearts
  • Be nourished by the Bible
  • Be healed by the Bible
  • Define holiness by the Bible
  • Define joy by the Bible

Darkness of Not Following God

This coming Lord’s Day at Eastside Baptist I will be preaching from Isaiah 8:16-22

“…they have no light of dawn. Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.”

Here in this section of the book Isaiah addresses two major matters.

  1. Isaiah will show he is satisfied to live committed to God,
    and
  2. Isaiah warns of those who will trust in others will live in darkness.

God’s word is either a lamp to your feet, illuminating the path or darkness falls upon those who curse Him.

Gather with me on this coming Lord’s Day, if He allows, and let’s look unto Christ as our only real hope.

Meet Bear Morton

On February 4, 2018 Eastside Baptist will host our second Burning in the Soul preaching series. I have invited “Bear” Morton, pastor of Magic Valley Bible Church in Twin Falls, to come and preach what is burning in his soul.

Meet Greg “Bear” Morton:

Bear has been shepherding God’s people who gather at Magic Valley Bible Church in Twin Falls for more than 17 years. Bear is married to Cherie and they have six children; Stephanie, Jamie, Joshua, Jordan, Madison and Riley.

Bear is an Idaho native, born and raised in Boise. Bear is one of the biblically faithful contributors to the weekly pastors column in the Twin Falls, Times News. (Any time you read one of his columns online be sure to like it and share it. When publications like this get traffic online it communicates to the editor that it is read and it is liked when it is read. Share it on your social media outlets too.)

Magic Valley Bible Church is a faithful preaching post of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ in Twin Falls. You can rejoice in the Lord that there are other faithful churches with faithful biblical preaching happening in the city. This church, MVBC, and this preacher, Bear Morton, are a blessing to all who live in the Magic Valley. Don’t miss out on this.

Gather with me on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. to hear a word from God delivered through this local pastor. Be encouraged that there are many faithful preachers. Be challenged in your relationship to Christ. Be corrected by the power of the Holy Spirit as we sit together under faithful preaching.

Meet John Downs

On January 7, 2018 Eastside will begin a preaching series called Burning in the Soul.

I have invited 12 men from the region to come to Eastside Baptist Church and preach. There are no agendas in the preaching, no assignments to the preachers, I’ve simply asked them to come and preach what is burning in their soul.

Make this part of your agenda for 2018.

Meet John Downs.

John has been pastoring in Paul, Idaho for the past year and a half. John is married to Misty. John is originally from Big Piney, Wyoming. John and Misty have five daughters; Tyler, Tori, Tacey, Tabitha, and Trinity.

Burning in the Soul will begin on January 7, at 6:30 p.m. Eastside, I want you to give serious consideration to attending. I have known John and Misty since they moved to the area. It did not take long to learn that John is a kindred brother. The Paul Congregational Church is blessed to have John shepherding them and I’m confident you will be blessed to know John.

While seeking God on who I could invite I had dialog with John about what he might preach on January 7. He communicated about “the Christian walk and what it means personally to have an intimate relationship with Christ. Walking in the light and love of our Savior…” This is what is burning in John’s soul. He’s been preaching through 1 John.

1John 5:21, “Little children, guard yourselves from idols.”
