Does God Have Anything to Say About Worship? (part 2)
In this four part short video series on The Family that Worships, Scott Brown asks important questions about worship and what God has to say about how he requires we worship him.
After you listen, share your thoughts on this subject.
The Family that Worships Together (part 1)
I recently had the opportunity to think through some elements of worship with pastors and theologians. Over the next few days I’ll share four videos that help explore and consider this important invitation from God to display His Glory.
Listen as Joel Beeke, Paul Washer, Doug Phillips, Jeff Pollard, Kevin Swanson, Scott Brown, Joe Morecraft, Marcus Serven, Boyd Dellinger, and Michael Gobart express consideration to this issue.
Missionary Review from Senegal
Many of you know of my dear friends in Senegal; Today, I thought I would give you a moment to get caught up on their lives from the vantage point of Ezra again.

Sufficiency of Scripture
If there is a simple way for me to describe the kind of journey I have been on, this would be it.
Join me in September as Scott Brown leads the men of Eastside through a sober look at Scripture and the role of fatherhood in our church. More information HERE.
What Is Your Name?
Genesis 32:27
“What is your name?”
This is an interesting question to be asked by the angel who wrestled with Jacob. It wouldn’t be that unusual of a question perhaps if he asked him before he wrestled him, but this question came after the struggle. I mean, did this angel think maybe he had wrestled the wrong person? Did he want to confirm what he thought?
Why ask this question now?
The answer became apparent to me after reading a sermon by Ron Dunn entitled “Surprise, It’s God”.
When Jacob answered this question it was more than giving his name that his mother called him or how he would be introduced to strangers, this was a declaration of his character. “My name is fraud” or “My name is deceiver”. It’s as though Jacob was admitting to the Lord that he has been a fraud, not just in name but more so in character. This is a grand confessional statement by Jacob.
Jacob requested that this angel tell him his name. He didn’t, but he did bless Jacob by giving him a new name. Not just an identity, but a new character; Israel.
So, what is your name?
Open Air Preaching
Every Saturday at 5:00PM in July in the middle of the Sawtooth National Forest, north of Fairfield, this little field becomes a preaching point of the Gospel. The gathering in the wilderness is born of the Spirit as the owners, Dan and Sue Robinson, long to have their ranch used by God for the advancement of the Gospel.

The past two Saturdays have been humble gatherings of people from all over southern Idaho. The gatherings have been made up of campers, visitors, and residents to the Sawtooth National Forest. Some have come because they were invited, some from Eastside have traveled each week to help, and others have dropped in after driving by and seeing this sign informing them of the Church by the Creek Bank meeting.
There are two more Saturday’s in July. Here are some ways you can help us prepare for the gatherings at the creek bank.
- Pray for those who prepare for the gatherings each week. There is preparation of setting up shade and chairs. We have not advertised that we are feeding whoever shows up, but pray for those who prepare the food.
- Pray for the residents of Camas County.
- Pray for the campers in the area.
- Pray for the churches in the area.
- Pray that there would be an outpouring of the Spirit of God.
Here is some information for you in the event you are in the area and want to gather with us by the creek bank or maybe you would be willing to share this information via Facebook, Twitter, or other social media. Church by the Creek Bank.
Baptism
The first Sunday of each month Eastside Baptist Church hosts a doctrinal study on Biblical truths. Yesterday was the doctrine of baptism. Historically, to baptize a believing convert was not unheard of but for a church to reserve baptism exclusively for believers and for that baptism to only be a symbolic act and not a saving act was rarely practiced. Except for the separatists, Baptists. Here is a doctrine worth examining. The audio version of this examination is available HERE. A .pdf document of the study is HERE.

An Open Letter: Eastside Baptist
To the Lord’s people who gather at 204 Eastland Drive North in Twin Falls, Idaho,
First, I bring you greetings from my parents. They have been faithful over their years to obey the Lord in his directing of their steps. They speak kindly of you with affection for your generous gift of time for me to help them. I also bring you greetings from a dear people of Second Baptist Church in Amarillo. They ask of you every time I am with you. I am happy to inform them of how the Lord has blessed you.
It is with great anticipation that I gather with you on this coming Lord’s Day, July 7, 2013. You have been extremely kind to me to allow me an extended time of leave to tend to my aging parents in Amarillo, TX. I do not know how to express this joy better than a simple letter.
As many of you know, my father’s health has been uncertain (and a reminder that really none of us have a guarantee of health). In the past year and a half the Lord has granted physical strength to my dad as he has recovered from two broken hips and a broken back. The time you allowed me has been valuable to all of us; my parents, Renee and I, and, I believe, for you as well. I was able to accomplish some physical things around my parents home, spend long days with my parents and Renee’s grandparents, and especially some refreshing days in my spirit.
I bless the Lord for John Martinez and his faithfulness. He is a faithful friend and know that he loves you very much.
We were encouraged when Silas and Bianca arrived and made the long journey home with us. I’m humbled in the Lord for a family like mine. I received word of your kindness toward David and Emily while I was away. This was a sweet act of kindness and ministered to me when I heard word of your generosity.
I bless the Lord for the care you have given to each other while I was away. You have experienced sorrow and joy while I was away and I have experience the same with you even in my absence. I have had reports of your care for each other and for this I am encouraged.
I am moments away from visiting Brad and Aly to introduce myself to Avery Jayne.
I long to gather with you on Sunday.
When God Calls the Most Unexpected
As part of my biography project I will include a few chapters on my mother’s parents, Herschel Lester and Marita Pearl Allison or Hershey and Sister Allison as they were known in South America. I recently sat down at the table with my mom and her sisters to hear the story of my grandparents following the Lord, Jesus Christ as he used a child with rheumatic fever to direct their path to a foreign land, learning a new language, leaving comforts, so the Gospel could be advanced in the interior of South America. These hours were filled with laughter and tears, sometimes at the same time.
Oh how I wish I could sit in that house on Buck Street and listen to Mama and Papa speak of the days in Argentina and Paraguay. But this moment at the table was a moment to cherish.
There are no promises from the Lord that if you follow Him everything turns out the way one desires. Their nine years in South America came to a close when a tumor was discovered at the base of “Sister Allison’s” Brain. This may have ended a season of missionary work in South America, but it opened a brand new season of a husband and wife bent to display the glory of God in their greatest adversity in their frail earthly bodies. I can’t wait to tell their story as it shows the power of God and the mercy of God in choosing those who many may think a lost cause.
