Unprincipled Scruples

The unprincipled scruples of the nation have grown to Biblical proportions.

I read about two bills that passed the U.S. House of Representatives today (09/24/2021). One is a defense spending bill that was easily passed and with sweeping support from both Republican and Democrat parties. Even with Idaho Representative, Mike Simpson’s support. The other bill shows the evil intent to put legislative teeth behind the 48 year old Roe v. Wade opinion passed the House with a clear party line divide.

Tucked away in the defense spending bill is a requirement of women, ages 18-28 to register for the military draft. If this passes the U.S. Senate, and it likely will, fathers need to be prepared to act like men, not simply as conscientious objectors, but as men of God. No, the United States of America does not have God’s authority to send our daughters to combat zones as warriors.

The “Women’s Health Protection Act” is lacking completely of any fear of God. If this bill passes the Senate, the federal government will have full jurisdiction to regulate how the intentional destruction of life takes place in that most glorious knitting factory in the universe. Men of God, the nation needs to hear from you.

I’ll say it again; The unprincipled scruples of the nation have grown to Biblical proportions. Preacher, enter that God ordained preaching post and speak the oracles of God.

They have abandoned the Lord,

They have turned away from Him.

Abolish Abortion Resolution

on Abolishing Abortion

  1. Whereas, the word of God, the Holy Bible, is a lamp to our feet (Psalm 119:105), its words are sweeter than honey to our mouth (Psalm 119:103), the law of God is perfect, the testimony of the Lord is sure, the fear of the Lord is clean, the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous (Psalm 19:7-9), and that this Holy Scripture, as given by inspiration of God, is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:14-17), and
  2. Whereas, from the moment of fertilization, all humans are created in God’s image by, through, and for Jesus to the glory of God, and all souls belong to Him (Genesis 1:27; 4:1; 21:2; Isaiah 7:14; Colossians 1:16; Romans 11:36; Ezekiel 18:4), and
  3. Whereas, all humans display His divine worth, power, and attributes – they possess equal and objective worth before God regardless of means of conception, ethnicity, age, size, mental development, physical development, gender, or contribution to society (Romans 1:19-20; Genesis 1:27; 9:6, Matthew 18:6), and
  4. Whereas, God, who is above all rule and authority, establishes all governing authorities as His avenging servants to punish the evildoer and commands these authorities to judge justly (Colossians 2:15; Psalm 82; Proverbs 20:10; Romans 13:4) and,
  5. Whereas, over the past forty-eight years in the United States alone there have been more than sixty million reported inhumane acts of induced abortions (actions to intentionally stop an otherwise natural birth) of fellow image-of-God-bearing humans, and
  6. Whereas, the Baptist Faith and Message, according to Article XV, affirms that children “from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord”; and further affirms that Southern Baptists are mandated by Scripture to “speak on behalf of the unborn and contend for the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death,” and
  7. Whereas, the messengers of the 2021 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting overwhelmingly passed, the Southern Baptist Resolution on Abolishing Abortion,

Now, let it be 

  1. Resolved, that we, the messengers of the Utah/Idaho Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Meridian, Idaho October 29, 2021, agree with God that no human institution, government, rule, or authority has permission from God to allow the intentional shedding of innocent blood and we reject any position that challenges the Holy and Righteous standard of Justice (Genesis 3:1; John 8:44; Romans 2:14-15; 2 Corinthians 11:3; Colossians 2:15;Psalm 94:6; Isaiah 10:1-2; Proverbs 24:11; Psalm 82:1-4), and be it further
  2. Resolved, that we affirm that induced abortions of preborn children is a crime against humanity and must be punished equally under the law, and be it further
  3. Resolved, that as Southern Baptists we will engage, with God’s help, in establishing equal justice and protection for preborn children by calling upon Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Utah House Speaker Brad Wilson and the rest of the Utah State House, and Utah Senate President J. Stuart Adams and the rest of the Utah Senate to pass, sign, and enforce legislation that would fully, finally, and immediately abolish the heinous act of abortion in Utah immediately without exception or compromise, and be it further
  4. Help Needed

This was just submitted to to the Twin Falls Times-News for the Faith Corner column I write for on a regular basis. Look for it on Saturday in the Times-News.


Help Needed

Like most everywhere across the Magic Valley, there are “Help Needed” signs. They are in windows and on sidewalks. Some of the signs post the hourly wage (always above minimum wage), including benefits and starting bonuses.

This is how it is in this temporal day. Man is always in need. Just like there is no shortage of “Help Wanted” signs in the commercial sector there is no shortage of “Help Needed” signs in the inner-man. 

Man always needs help.

He needs help in his marriage. He needs help with his children. He needs help getting along with his neighbor. He needs help putting up with his coworkers. He needs help pushing his car to the gas station when he runs out of gas in the Blue Lakes and Pole Line intersection.

Man was created in such a way as to have a relationship with God and all of His creation. Yet, because of sin, he needs help with how to do so properly so as to glorify God. 

Man needs help, but this is not how it is with God. He needs no help. Ever.

From before the first pages of the Bible to beyond the close of all temporal days, God is never without resources or in need of assistance. God, as He describes Himself in the Bible, is not meeting with a therapist or seeking counsel on how to win friends or influence a generation in need of Him. He’s not needing to be coached on how to be more compassionate or more clear with His commandments. 

This is because God is not man.

Let me encourage the reader to not look for an escape from the day God has ordained but rather when we find ourselves in need of help to turn to the one who is not found lacking. 

God does not need to be reinvented for men to love him, He was not invented.

God does not need to create a new ad campaign so everyone will want to try Him again, He was not created.

God does not need a board meeting of all the brilliant economists to know how to get out of debt, He is all knowing.

God does not attend conferences to learn of new medical discoveries, He is full of wisdom.

God does not look to ally with other nations to help protect His kingdom, He is all powerful.

God does not have a weekly appointment with a therapist to learn skills in how to be more gentle. He is all together different from everything He created. 

So, as you drive around and see all the “Help Needed” signs, let that cause you to meditate on the nature of God and His eternal attributes. Be encouraged that you can trust the One who needs no help, and He is not lacking in any resources to help with all of your needs. 

There is a greater need that we are completely lacking in, bankrupt of righteousness. This is a great kindness of God that he would send His One and Only Begotten Son, Christ Jesus the Lord, to satisfy what man is most incapable of doing. The wrath of God can only be satisfied by the blood of Christ. 

Only the one who needs nothing can do this for you. Repent of your sin, believe the Gospel, be saved.

The following is a “mostly ready for print” resolution I intend to submit for consideration of the messengers of the Utah/Idaho Southern Baptist Convention on the subject of abolishing abortion.

The Other Side of the Window

In a rare moment, I brought my guitar into the public gathering last night (9/12/2021).

The evening gathering was focused on some reflection from that providential September day in 2001 when the nation was asking questions and looking to God for an answer, at least for a few days.

I was a much younger pastor then.

I was praying, like many. within a few weeks, I was sitting in the old auditorium with the window blinds open, reflecting on how fast we tend to forget God and just go about our self-driven lives. I played my guitar much more frequently in those days and just began floating out a personal reflection of my own heart. Within a few hours I hammered out this song. I share it here, not as a claim to “God told me to write this”, I share it like a journal entry of my own reflection.

Oh, how I long to live out my faith with the strength and courage of God.

Faith Corner Column

It has been communicated to me with a strong warning that any of my columns that are not favorable to LGBTQ+ issues will no longer be published in the Twin Falls Times-News.

Fair enough. It is not my publication. It is technically an “opinion” column that I was first requested to submit on a rotating basis with other “pastors” in the community. I have been please to be doing this for nearly 9 years and have hope to continue on.

First, I will not be censored on content. Second, I will love my neighbor and write as though someone holding truth were writing to me – I would want truth written to me.

One of the things that mark Biblical Christianity is that when the Bible speaks, it speaks with the highest of authority. The follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, as described by the Bible alone, will do all that he can to govern his life with this “headlamp” on to illuminate his path and steps. 

One of the paramount duties of a local church that makes claim to be under the authority of the Bible is the responsibility to read the Bible in public places and give exposition of the reading of that text. Generally speaking, from the ancient days (Ezra and Nehemiah) when God’s people would gather together to give ear to what God had revealed, the people would secure a platform/pulpit so that the hearing of what God had communicated could be heard by all who had gathered. In most records of this happening, men and women, boys and girls, even nursing infants were present. 

The local gathering of a Bible-believing people has been either held as a blessing or a curse. A blessing to those wanting to hear from God or a curse to those who want to suppress the truth (Romans 1). The apostle Paul once even spoke of how the messenger of the good news (the Gospel) would be received as a sweet-smelling aroma to those being saved and the stench of death to those who are perishing (2 Corinthians 2:15-17).

“For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.” (2 Corinthians 2:15-17)

Jesus noted that His duty was to obey the Father rather than men when He said, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work” (John 4:34). He noted that His work was singular and would not be distracted. An example to the church and the man of God who sits in the office of pastor in that local fellowship. 

The Apostle Paul wrote of the faith of the local church in Thessalonica when he received word back from Timothy that the tempter had not been successful in persuading the followers of God in the city to abandon their faith amid the affliction and pressure to not speak truth (1 Thessalonians 3). 

This shines a Biblical light upon the role of a local church and the man in the pulpit.

The church, if she is to be true to her duty, is to be a pillar and buttress of truth. That preacher in the pulpit is not called upon by God to create fancy ways to attract bigger crowds. That preacher has been called to be faithful to his called upon duty. Mainly, read this Scripture to God’s people, exposit this text with helpful application, and prayer. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t give compassionate care to the people or provide ministries to the widows, orphans, and poor among us. It means his first priority is to the word and prayer. 

He is really like an ancient lookout in a fixed spot on the wall to point out the present dangers facing the city and point everyone to the savior, the one that will not disappoint. He is responsible to warn the community of the false teachers, the world philosophies, the traditions of men (Colossians 2:8).  If he does not do his job, he should be removed because of his cowardice and laziness and replaced with one who will not be tempted to abandon his duty.

The one doing his duty under the authority of the word of God must answer to God, not man. The church doing its duty must love God more than the personality of the man in the pulpit. Then it is upon the people being saved to rejoice that God has given them a faithful man in the pulpit or for the people perishing to stiffen their necks and have nothing of truth to be heard on their streets. This tension will always be present. For the glory of God, may He bless the city with faithful pulpits.

For Now We Really Live

I’m currently preaching through First Thessalonians on Sunday evenings. It is no surprise that the intentional examination of Scripture reaps joy in one’s soul. This is indeed happening.

In chapter 3, the Apostle Paul discloses his longing to be present with the believers in the church. He had already shown that he had been hindered from traveling to the city so he sent Timothy, his missionary partner, with hope to hear reports of how the church was doing in the midst of the current afflictions they were enduring.

The report from Timothy was encouraging. The church was faithful and not willing to give in to the pressure from the tempter to abandon their faith. Because of this good news from the footman, Timothy, the apostle reports “for now we really live.”

Similar to what Jesus said that he did not come that one might simply have life but that they might have life “more abundantly.”

Sometimes when I walk into my church office I notice there is a voice mail. Today, I can guess that nearly 80% of phone calls to our church office are for an extended warranty for a car, student loan something, or the IRS is looking for me because of “suspicious” activity usage of my Social Security number. It’s always exciting to hear an actual voice of a real person.

Today, there were two real live persons who left a voice mail.

The first one was from a person looking for information about what we did when our city library promoted lifestyles contrary to the glory of God. They are working on something in their city and heard that we had appealed to our city library to relocate a promotion in the children’s area of our library.

The other one was this. “There is nothing good about what you do or who you are. You are an absolute disgrace to our country.” And if that was not enough, the caller wanted to be sure I heard him clearly before he hung up without a return phone number or the courage to leave his name, “Again, there is NOTHING good about what you do or who you are.”

Not even a “have a good day.” How rude.

The letter from Paul was to encourage the church in her affliction to stand tall and faithful. I’m currently being canceled in various ways and places in my community from this increasing marshmallowy society but, by the grace of God, I have a church that has a secured preaching post of truth.

Rejoice, church, for now, we really live…

A Forgotten Threat to Humanity

Let me begin with this… Any government that passes laws to regulate when, where, how, and why a baby can be removed from the womb by force to stop that child from otherwise being born cannot and should not be trusted.

There is a social complication that many want to overlook and seem pleased to have a skilled illusionist who strategically places scantily clad women on stage distracting the audience while they effortlessly move an elephant across the platform. The skilled politicians, I mean illusionists, are at it again.

“Pay no attention to the babies being murdered over here while we strike fear across the land with song and dance.” We are learning again that research at two Universities, one in San Francisco and one in Pittsburg are harvesting fetus genitalia and bladders for research purposes from induced abortions with the intent to stop an otherwise natural birth. And these research universities are receiving federal government funds (tax-payer beware, we are not only paying for abortions, we are paying for inhumane research with Nazi-Germany type ethics.) Many of these induced abortions are in second and third trimester pregnancies. Now, let me be clear… COVID-19 has the appearance of still being a serious public health concern with reported rising numbers. I’m not speaking as an expert scientist, I do however want to think of myself as speaking as a well-informed thinker. I know how to read and I know how to think. I attempt to be widely read. In other words, not just reading people I like or people who will agree with me. I read NPR, CNN, MSNBC and FOX. Then I read the reports they claim to cite.

I am a freeman. I was born a freeman. And pray, by the grace of God, to die a freeman (for the sake of not getting lost in the semantics of theology, I’m not talking about my spiritual condition, I’m speaking of my flesh and bone.) As a freeman, born in a constitutional republic form of government nation, I am personally responsible to my fellow countrymen to be well-informed.

As a child, I was given vaccines. I don’t hold my parents in a bad light for doing so. As an adult, I have voluntarily allowed approved vaccines to be injected into my body. Now that I know that the majority of these vaccines are on the backs of research done with aborted fetus tissue, I can no longer, in good conscience, participate in the charade being passed off as “science”.

Let me finish with my initial reason for writing today.

Whatever happened to the threat to humanity called HIV/AIDS? Has this virus been cured?

I just did simple research this morning… There appears to be an illusionist on stage with strategically placed distractions so as to move a bison herd through town undetected. Why isn’t anyone talking about this? Why is the government so quick today to celebrate and normalize sexually perverted relationships while also looking for ways to lock-down, mask-up, vaccinate otherwise healthy people?

According to the United Nations, a group of “experts” who are killing babies and indoctrinating children around the world with humanistic philosophies, there is a vulnerable population that are a risk of dying with and of COVID-19.

  • People living with HIV experience more severe outcomes and have higher comorbidities from COVID-19 than people not living with HIV. In mid-2021, most people living with HIV did not have access to COVID-19 vaccines.
    • Studies from England and South Africa have found that the risk of dying from COVID-19 among people with HIV was double that of the general population. (emphasis mine)

This is part of the distraction tactics of the viruses and numbers. I was researching HIV/AIDS and the report from the government agency wanted to make it about those who don’t have access to COVID-19 vaccines. And all NPR could do was take issue with calling federally funded research of harvested genitalia of aborted fetuses, murder.

HIV/AIDS has become a forgotten threat to humanity because no one wants to talk about sin anymore.

By the way, according to USAID, the risk of acquiring HIV is:
35 times higher among people who inject drugs.
34 times higher for transgender women.
26 times higher for sex workers.
25 times higher among gay men and other men who have sex with men.

Now, why is it that the government doesn’t understand why some people don’t trust them?

The late President Reagan got is right when thinking about a forgotten threat to humanity when he said…

“The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the Government, and I’m here to help.

Defend This…

Tell me again why you don’t think this current generation is under attack to normalize sexual perversions.

Today, I picked Renee up to go eat pizza for lunch. I know, I’m a romantic and take my wife to fancy places for fancy food.

Pizza, by itself, is not a moral or ethical matter for me. I’m not saying “I’ll be disappointed” if there is no pizza in heaven, I’m just saying… well, I am on the verge of derailing my thought and rant before I even begin.

I am a firm believer that a free market is at its best when the consumer participates in his own patronage and boycotts while deciding with his own hard-earned free-market income where he spends it. And even better when he influences said market with principled values.

I’m not opposed to rainbow-colored logos on t-shirts, I support and defend the freedom of speech and practice it as often as I can. If a business wants to advertise for the normalization of a sexual perversion, more or less power to them. Their decisions are theirs – mine are mine. That’s what a free market is.

So, all I’m saying is… It pays to pay attention. I have an obligation to be kind and respectful to all of my neighbors. Of which I strive to do. Even, and especially, the ones I disagree with for the chance I may get to speak Gospel words.

Now, I know I’m “old-fashioned” in more ways than one, and I am more of an old-fashioned Baptist than some would like for me to be. No not the kind of old-fashioned Baptist who thinks it is a sin to roller-skate in a buffalo herd, the kind of old-fashioned Baptist who thinks the Bible is sufficiently true. This makes me somewhat of a dinosaur even in some Baptist circles. But this is another rabbit hole that quickly takes me away from the reason for my stopping by to put a few thoughts together when I might should be rewriting my sermon again for this coming Lord’s Day.

The bigger reason for my post today is to observe how inconsistent this woke world has become. In the same restaurant with employees promoting sexually perverted lifestyles for the owner, there are local wine bottles with logos objectifying women.

At the end of a beautiful spread of pizza toppings for your pizza appetite, right there at eye level for any boy, or girl, to see with their unfiltered eyes, an Idaho wine bottle with a woman holding two large, bigger than life, tomatoes in just the right place as to cause the viewer to not imagine tomatoes.

Make sure that you understand this as I wrap up my mussing.

This is not about rainbow-colored t-shirts. This is not an old fuddy-duddy practicing his self-induced teetotalism on others. This is more about how a pizza restaurant just lost my interest in spending my money because of their soft-peddling of pornography.

Blaze Pizza, at least respect the women in our town enough to turn your wine bottles around. I get it; the governor of New York can talk about women however his community will let him. That doesn’t mean you need to do so.

I have no issue with their pizza. Except for how much money it costs. God bless a free market.

Unprotected Babies

What if an enemy of the city of Twin Falls wanted to fly their flag at City Hall?

This past week in the city of Twin Falls, Idaho five babies were stopped from having a live birth. While that happened, hardly anyone noticed. One could almost say, “no one noticed”. The late Francis Shaeffer said that every abortion clinic in the nation should have a sign over the door that says “open by permission of the churches in this area”.

What would make a path possible to stop the murdering of babies in Twin Falls?

First, it would require a revival to happen in the church. It would require churches in the city to repent of their silence and apathy. It will require churches to stop taking their marching orders from the “pro-life” lobbyist and read their Bibles.

Second, it would require the church to strap on her gospel shoes and enter the field. That field the bible says is “white unto harvest”. That field where the “laborers are few”. That field is where all great awakenings happen.

And, it will require a community ready to express and extend compassion to women who find themselves in need of help.

Since abortions began happening in Twin Falls, Idaho the murdering of babies has now reached over 1,900. How is that “women’s health”? 

In 2013 I had penned these thoughts while thinking about the tyranny unleashed upon the unprotected babies in our city.

“I would expect there would be a global outrage if an army of 600 militia men, armed for war, burned a peaceful town down. I would likely join the cry for justice.

I would expect Facebook and Twitter to light up with posts for weeks if it was discovered that a father gave his daughters to invaders to do with as they wish. This is wrong on so many levels, and one would find few people to disagree that that father is not only a danger to his children but to all of civilization.

I would expect a man who chops his dead wife up into twelve equal pieces and then sends those pieces throughout the land to not escape the death penalty would cause a shortage of pitchforks and tiki torches.

Yet, today, in our land and around the world, two organizations are largely unchallenged in their injustice, inhumane ways. UNICEF gets its pass because of its clever and well-put-together commercials and propaganda. Planned Parenthood will cunningly evade the questions on funding while they slaughter the unborn. Both organizations will gather large sums of money from taxpayers in America and individual donors. Making both UNICEF and Planned Parenthood holding governments around the world hostage.”

I would expect a nation that claims to be a nation under God would not stand for the murdering of (61) million defenseless babies.

This oversight seems unbelievable. Yet, when there is no acknowledgment of God when men do what is right in their own eyes, only then can a nation sit quietly while the act of murdering five babies this week in Twin Falls will be protected by law.

Unprotected babies will be murdered in our city again in two weeks. Yet no news will be reported of the massacre. 

Churches of the Magic Valley, prepare to give your best effort in answering our God. Better, repent of our laziness and pursuit of happiness while this slaughtering takes place in your city.

It is clear, when men do what is right in their own eyes, they will soon be doing what is evil in the eyes of God and the enemy will raise their flag at City Hall signaling their victory. This is being done multiple times a month.
