Proverbs Chapter One

It’s almost a brand new year.

This is always a good time of the year to introduce new habits into your routine or a good time to remember why you have these kinds of good habits already.

Are you in the habit of reading the Bible?

Join me in the month of January and read the book of Proverbs.

Share this with others and encourage them to do the same. I have made this available in video, audio, and print versions. Choose which ones work out best for you.

Reading a chapter from Proverbs every day has been a long-time habit of mine. I find the sayings easy to relate to. I find it helpful to intentionally meditate upon one or two verses from the chapter throughout the day.

I will publish a new chapter from Proverbs every day in January 2022.

Pre-Episode #1

Here is pre-episode #1 of Press On. This is really more of an attempt on my part to become more familiar with how my audio and video equipment works. I will attempt a pre-episode live stream next week.

I could use real-life feedback on how the audio and video work on your end. Leave a comment with suggestions. I can take both kinds of feedback so don’t worry about hurting my feelings.

Podcast

original podcast recording setup in 2014

In 2014 I launched my first podcast. It ran until early 2016. It never broke the internet.

I first began blogging in 2006. In blogging years that means I am old and an ancient blogger. A 15-year blogger is like digging in at the site of city ruins and finding a fossil.

My first blog site was http://bridgebloggin.blogspot.com/. I never broke the internet there either.

Fifteen years later with hundreds of blog posts and a 2-year run at a podcast called the Bridge Cast, I’m ready to take another shot with another podcast. I’m working on the content, production, and material now with hopes to launch it in January of 2022.

The title of the new podcast will be Keep on Walkin’. I will host it here on my blog page.
Here is the pilot version:

I released my first unofficial run with original music intro and closer by Matt Vawser, on the banjo. I mean, who cannot keep on walkin’ when a banjo is being played?

If you can endure any of the old podcasts you will notice the audio is hard to endure for long. I have new recording equipment that just arrived (Renee just sent me a text that it arrived one day early.) All 26 episodes of the Bridge Cast are archived below. For now, I’ll be working on artwork, content, guests, contests, and more. Here’s to breaking the internet.

Flourishing PRIDE Events in Small Town America? (warning)

Audio Version HERE: https://www.sermonaudio.com/sermon/119211951415680

First things first…

I stand with any neighbor who wants to assemble with a group of like-minded people. Even if I disagree with them.

I do not request the city forbid a PRIDE event at City Park for a gathering of sexual deviants who want to sing kumbaya, however; if they want to put a person on stage to tease a sexual arousal of the audience with children present I will continue to request my city uphold common decency laws. If the organizers of PRIDE events in Twin Falls want to hold events on public property they should abide by the same common laws every other citizen does without being shown favor. To put young children on stage for a free form dance while the MC makes lewd comments about the minors while they are dancing is unconscionable. Can you imagine any part of our society that would be alright with any adult saying to a minor, “You’re so hot!”, “With consent, can I touch you?”, “That’s hot!” or “Come out and twerk!” This is what happens at a small town PRIDE event.

In a recent post in the Twin Falls Times-News it was reported that there is a flourishing of PRIDE events across the nation in small towns. I don’t know how these events happen in other towns, but in my town the growing boldness of the sin of Sodomy is flourishing.

Of course the local narrative is to live and let live. I’m all in on living and letting live. However, I am not all in on setting a city up for the judgment of God.

In our city council forums we hosted in October we asked this question:

With respect to the diversity of people in our beloved city, we want to hear how you would address the liberty of all while considering public use of city property. How would you help our city uphold decency laws in public parks/buildings while respecting the vast differences of opinions? (Note: PRIDE events at the City Park this past year displayed men dressed in costume – wearing women’s clothing – while performing sexually charged dances while children were present. The current city council has a video copy of the event.)

With a few exceptions, the candidates were not opposed to giving groups permission to holding events on city owned property while advancing or violating “decency laws” or “sexually charged dances while children were present.” (And none of those candidates at the forum who would expect law enforcement to hold the event planners to our agreed upon decency laws were elected).

If that is the definition of flourishing, then indecency and sexually deviant behaviors are flourishing in small town Twin Falls.

Let’s be honest, not all flourishing is good. Who wants poison ivy to flourish? I mean the whole world wants AIDS to NOT flourish, right? They want sodomy to flourish just not the consequences.

The following video is not for everyone. I Don’t recommend everyone to watch this. There may be an argument that no one should watch this. But this is flourishing in small town Idaho.

I have a plant book that helps me identify plants. There is a section entitled “noxious weeds”. Included in that section are listed the dangers of not eradicating that poison, if not done soon the danger will flourish and in order for it to do so, will need to eliminate the good plants in its path.

The question before the community is, “what now should be done?”

My argument is, the community needs to hear from the church on how to best help all in our city flourish in light of the gospel. The church that remains silent on the matter is like a gardener who refuses to pull up the noxious weeds. The church that embraces and advances the noxious weed cares nothing for those they claim to welcome and love.

Watch this with caution. May it cause you to pray for your community. May it increase your concern of what is flourishing.

To all of us… Repent and believe the gospel. Let’s talk.

Prepared questions:

  • With respect to the welfare of all people in the city of Twin Falls, and knowing the complexity of how to address the nationwide controversy of abortion. On average 175 babies are aborted in the city of Twin Falls (Idaho Department of Health and Welfare). Public safety is a matter of interest for everyone who enters our city. We want to know if you would support a plan from our city to speak out for the children in the womb who are in danger? Please explain.
  • With respect to the diversity of people in our beloved city, we want to hear how you would address the liberty of all while considering public use of city property. How would you help our city uphold decency laws in public parks/buildings while respecting the vast differences of opinions? (Note: PRIDE events at the City Park this past year displayed men dressed in costume – wearing women’s clothing – while performing sexually charged dances while children were present. • With respect to public health issues; How will you help protect local churches from being restricted from meeting or how we meet? What are your positions regarding mandated face coverings and vaccines? How would you protect churches from government overreach?

Be sure to invite someone to attend the only in-person candidate forums for the City of Twin Falls – City Council Seats 5 and 1.

Meet the Candidates Forums

November 2, 2021 is fast approaching.

I host a weekly hour on the local radio station, Newsradio 1310 KLIX, called Pastors’ Round Table with pastor “Bear” Morton of Magic Valley Bible Church and pastor Christopher Folkerts of New Covenant United Reformed Church. We are pleased to host “Meet the Candidates” forms again this year.

Everyone tells us that local elections are the most important ones to participate in, yet this is where the lowest voter turnout is usually found.

We’ve made arrangements for Twin Falls voters to get to know the candidates running for city council. We will host two nights for citizens to meet the candidates this year. We will have candidates running for Seat 1 on Tuesday, October 19, and candidates running for Seat 5 on Thursday, October 21. Both nights will begin at 7 PM at Eastside Baptist Church located at 204 Eastland Drive North in Twin Falls, ID.

Share this and invite your neighbors to consider these opportunities. We will have prepared questions for the candidates and those attending will be able to submit written questions too.

For people of faith, we have a great hope in Christ. As people of faith we desire to be well informed, responsible and active Here are some things I recommend you consider doing. Following are some suggestions I have for being more active in this important process.

  • Pray.
  • Learn how to talk about politics responsibly.
  • Consider inviting your friends in the city of Twin Falls to attend both nights of our candidate forums (Tuesday, October 19 and Thursday, October 21. )
  • Attend the forum.
  • If you have children, bring them with you and teach them how to responsibly participate and be an informed voter. Especially if they are teenagers.
  • Support candidates that match your values.
  • Invite your fiends over to meet a candidate you are supporting.
  • When discussing politics on social media be disciplined to not distract conversations. If you enter a discussion on another persons thread, use extreme caution and be courteous and not accuse others of things, call other people names, or make judgments about their motives without full awareness. Go into the conversation carefully.
  • Enjoy the discussion with respect.
  • If you have children, compile a list of questions you could send to all of the candidates. Explain what you are doing and that you are teaching your children ways to become well informed on important issues to your family.

Give Us A Blessing of the Pets

About a decade ago the religion editor of the Times News approached me and several pastors in the city to consider writing on a rotating basis for the religion section in the Saturday Paper. This has been a great pleasure to have done so and would hope it to continue on for many more decades.

But, the wind has shifted and the Times News is pulling the plug on Pastors’ Corner.

For the past several years my friend “Bear” Morton, pastor at Magic Valley Bible Church and I have been essentially rotating the column between the two of us with a few exceptions when another contributor would submit a column.

About two months ago I was informed that the paper would continue to publish my column submissions but they would no longer publish anything related to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, + topics. This was after a month of writing about concerning issues related to LGBTQ+ promotions in our city library in the children’s department.

Writing from the Times News has been an experience I will always treasure. I have had many conversations with people in the community who either appreciated what I had to write or had steam building up in the pressure cooker that needed to be released. These columns would generate occasional personal emails, phone calls, vile voicemails, online debate, and a few submissions on Rants and Raves on Craig’s List that were only rants. I was even nominated for the coveted “Christmas Turd” award from someone who likely only gets used coal in his stockings.

But overall, I’m thankful to have had this opportunity.

The real unsung hero in my column writing was my personal editor, Renee. I can assure you that anytime I published a column with a run-on sentence, a misspelled word, or a misplaced there, their, or they’re was not because of the careful eye of my editor, it would because I would submit it before I had her look it over. There were for sure some embarrassing mishaps from these lumberjack fingers clunking away on the keyboard. A few of my favorite columns never got submitted because after Renee read it she would very kindly say something like, “were you drinking when your wrote this?” Because I don’t drink, I took that as a fair critique that I should not submit it without a major rewrite. So Thank you, Renee. (If you are reading this right now, that means that I published this post without asking her to edit what I just said. Imagine seeing me at my computer right now with a smile on my face knowing that when she reads this later she will ask me; “Why didn’t you let me edit this?” Now imagine me shrugging my shoulders with a crooked grin on my silly face. )

I have offered the Times News my efforts to find more people to write the Pastors’ Corner column. I even have a long list of people who disagree with me who would love to have a platform if only to rebut my column. I don’t look for this to unfold. Funny thing is, those who think my biblical view is too narrow have successfully censored me by cancelling my column in this publication.

I guess people would rather their religious leaders provide a drive-through blessing of the pets than actually write about holy things. Maybe they are more looking for someone to write about bad puppy breath and how cute floppy bunny ears are rather than the oracles of God from someone with a biblical vertebrate (hat tip to Times News reader Brian.)

There was a day when communities wanted a religion column to be a religion column. The day is fast behind us. Come on, preacher, the days where you describe God from the Bible only are the days my grandparents lived in. Don’t you know we can now eat meatless meat printed on a 3D printer? Your environment killing cows have been replaced.

I will continue the discipline of writing and musing from a biblical worldview. I invite ongoing discourse with any who agree or disagree. I welcome face to face discussions in many of the fine dining establishments in the city, I welcome more formalized public debates. I just enjoy talking about the Messiah as described by the Bible alone.

I find value in taking the time to actually write out my thoughts. I even enjoy a heated debate with myself on how to say something.

You are encouraged to drop by my self-published-blog page and correspond with me from time to time. When you do, please share my blog posts before someone comes along and unplugs my monitor.
