The King Has Won!
by Paul Thompson
Palm Sunday 2026
The humble beast of burden,
Steady and sure of hoof,
She bore the weight of heaven’s King
With Gentle, quiet proof.
No prancing steed of war was she
No chariot’s flashing pride
Just patient strength and cheerful glee
That carried royal stride.
Through cloaks and palms and shouting throngs
She walked and measured tread,
Gentle eyes that knew no fear,
Confident of what lay ahead.
Hosanna! cried the joyful crowd,
Hosanna in the highest!
The Son of David rides this day
Hallelujah! Sang Heaven’s chorus.
It was the donkey’s humble frame
Her creator is now shown
Love that came to serve the least,
Love that claims its own.
She felt the Savior’s calming hand,
She heard the people’s praise
She bore the King of kings with grace
Along those ancient ways.
Oh, blessed beast of burden,
So small beneath such glory
You taught us that our only strength
Is found in heaven’s story.
Steady, confident, and full of love,
In silence you proclaimed
The King has come, the Prince of Peace,
And Shilo is His name
Hallelujah to the Rider,
Sing Hosanna to the One
Who chose this humble donkey’s back
To announce the King has won!
