While You’ve Been Praying…

While you’ve been praying: Letters from pastors, men, and women from all across the state of Idaho have been being delivered to my house. They are signed statements to Idaho legislation to give the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act a proper hearing and schedule a path for debate.

While you’ve been praying: A meeting with the chairman of the State Affairs Committee has been scheduled …

Today I invite the mobilized church of Eastside Baptist to continue praying in the vanguard position with the Gospel banner upon your shoulders, not planted in the rearguard while napping in the winter barracks.

CALL TO PRAYER:
Gather with me Monday, March 4 at 7p.m. for prayer. We will gather at the house of prayer (ESBC).

Come, bring your children, bring your Bibles.

Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act (unofficial update)

This has been a busy week in the Idaho legislative session. But the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act still sits waiting for direction from the chairman of the State Affairs Committee, Steven Harris.

Let me encourage you to not lose heart. Remember, believer, our hope is in Christ, not politicians.

As of February 28, 2019, 12:30 p.m.

On February 27, Renee and I drove to Moscow to be on Cross Politic. This was a humble pleasure.

We met Scott Herndon from Northern Idaho (see video). Scott gave helpful information about what major hurdles the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act is currently facing. This will help explain why there is some confusion with a mass email reply from Rep. Steven Harris in the past few days about why this bill has not been given a hearing yet.

Listen in to the conversation with Cross Politic here.

You should make stopping by their site a regular stop. Theses guys are good thinkers, they are skilled in using the logical thinking process, they know how to ask good questions, and they know how to laugh with and at with respect. This is a rare thing. That said, even though they baptize their babies, you should listen in. And visit their site regularly.

Democrat U.S. Senators – Repent of Your Agression Agaist the Holy God

The Democrat party just declared war against God today.

Who shuts down a bill to save babies who, by the grace of God, survives a botched attempt to stop a live birth? No God fearing American can, with a clear conscience, vote for any U.S. senator who voted against this bill today.

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act had to have been the easiest vote the American politician could ever have made. Today, February 25, 2019 the Democrat party showed their hatred of God and their fellow countrymen. This is unconscionable. Shame upon the U.S. Democrat senators.

These are breathing babies on a table in an abortion clinic who have no one looking out for them. Left to die. This is not what what a God fearing nation does, ever. The Democrates voting against this bill today hate God and hate America. God have mercy, “His indignation is against all the nations, and His wrath against all their armies, He has utterly destroyed them.” (Isaiah 34:2)

Pastor, if I had a U.S. senator in my state who voted agaist this bill I would only have one phone call tomorrow, call that senator to repentance.

Hope is not lost tonight. It is as it always has been, our only hope is God. His bow is bent.

An Apparent Conflict in Oklahoma

For me to write publicly is a living lesson of how careful I have to be. I write as a pastor of Eastside Baptist Church because that’s what my church called me to do, but nothing I write, without church congregational approval, is an official statement of the church I pastor. Nothing I write in the paper, nothing I say on the radio, nothing I write on my personal blog page is ever an official statement of my church. That said, everything I say or right is a public representation of the people I lead. Which is why, when I was recently dubbed a “Christmas Turd” on the local Craigslist Rants and Raves because of my ongoing newspaper column I was asked to write years ago, I stop for reflection of how that public opinion about me, and the church I pastor, is cause for careful examination.

Not to be less bold, to be extremely careful.

Yesterday, the Baptist Messenger, a publication by the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma (BGCO) released an open letter to Oklahoma Baptists regarding abortion and protecting human life.

In light of the political attention rising from an awakening conscience across the nation and the pending Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act introduced to the Idaho House of Representatives State Affairs Committee three weeks ago, I find the released open letter by the GBCO a confusing voice in the current movement to abolish abortion in the state of Oklahoma.

I’m far removed from the public discussion in the state of Oklahoma so consider my observation moot in their conversation. My take is only from that of a distant kinsman.

What I like about what the GBCO open letter said…

  • “The BGCO is categorically opposed to abortion, and it is our prayer and goal to see lives saved and an end to abortion in Oklahoma and beyond.”
  • “We will continue to strive for the day in which every human life—unborn and born—in this state and beyond is protected. With all the strength God gives us, we resolve to build a culture of life that recognizes each person is made in His image (Gen. 1:27). God help us.”

I can get behind this and say that neither of those statements surprise me.

However, what does surprise me, and likely many others is that a state convention released an open letter that would at the same time not support a bill that would otherwise abolish abortion all together. Admittedly, as I said earlier, I am far removed from Oklahoma. I want to know what these brothers see that I don’t. I want to believe that they are acting in good conscience under the leading of right thinking.

Furthermore, my confusion is not disconnected from their open letter. (Mind you, they did not right this open letter to Baptists in Idaho.) Baptist polity is a very unique critter. We are independent and voluntarily cooperate or agree. I think it is fitting for a Baptist institution to speak out, but as that independent institution not on behalf of the others. In other words, I don’t mind that the BGCO spoke into the political discussion, I wish more would. I don’t even mind that their conclusion is different than mine. It is more true that no Baptist in Oklahoma is waiting to hear what a Baptist in Idaho has to say. One thing I continue learning is that disagreements mostly help us better articulate.

This much I’m certain we agree upon, only the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, as described by the Bible alone, will change the intent of the heart of any issue facing our states or united nation. Nothing, save the blood of Jesus at His death.

My concern/confusion is where it appears they are speaking on behalf of all Baptists in Oklahoma. As I understand Baptist polity, I know they are not. It does seem confusing to weigh in with conclusion on a bill’s demise before it is even tested. Every bill has to eventually be tested with skilled arguments and an eventual ruling.

  • The open letter makes it appear certain that “SB 13 will (likely) be invalidated immediately by the courts, if it passes at all, and we cannot save lives with legislation that never goes into effect.”
  • I never want anyone to act against their conscience, but for a Baptist institution to claim “In the meantime, we cannot in good conscience get behind SB 13 as it is proposed” seems unclear at best. To claim to be historic advocates for the unborn, and I think they are, and then “in good conscience” not support a bill to abolish abortion, is most confusing.

I will continue to watch what is going on in Oklahoma while actively appealing to God to raise up a voice from pastors in the state of Idaho to assure our legislators we want them to give the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act a day for debate.

Here, on this matter, I think it better to have tried and lost than to have never tried at all. I think Oklahoma Baptists have been trying, and may God grant them grace to live in a state one day that forbids the murdering of babies born and unborn.

May God give this grace to a state in the union this legislative session. My prayer, may it be Idaho! This seems nearly impossible because the bill still sits idle at the chairmans desk and one of my representatives (Rep. Clow) does not want this bill open for debate. Nothing is impossible for my God.

May the conscience of the Idaho legislators be awakenened in our day. If not in Idaho, may God give this mercy to Oklahoma in this day. If not in Oklahoma, Texas; if not in Texas, South Carolina; if not South Carolina, then in the most unlikely place of the state of Washington where just this week a bill was introduced to do the same.

Pastors of Idaho Mercy Statement (update)

As of 12:00 noon on February 21, 2019 there are 109 pastors from 55 cities from across the state of Idaho who have signed the “Pastors of Idaho Mercy Statement”.

I’m thankful to God for this.

Here is the full statement with names of pastors who have signed the statement. Pastors of Idaho Mercy Statement

Here’s how you can help.

  • Pray, last night my church prayed for every church and pastor who had signed the statement. Pray for churches and pastors across the state. The window of time is very narrow. It is important that the church find herself quickly mobilized to speak before it is too late this legislative year.
  • Please look through the list and see if your pastor has signed this. If not, please ask him to consider reading it and signing it if he is in agreement.
  • Do you know pastors in other cities? Look at the list and notice there are still many cities (75% of the cities) across the state of Idaho who do not have a pastor in their community who has signed this yet. It is most likely, they have not heard of it yet. Help spread the word.
  • Call your local representatives and ask them to keep asking about the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act. This proposed bill is still waiting on the chairman of the State Affairs committee to assign it a hearing. Call the chairman’s office yourself and let him know that you would like this bill to be considered this legislative year.
  • Pray for God to pour his mercy upon the land. May God have mercy upon the state of Idaho.

Definition of “Induced Abortions”

May God have mercy and awaken the conscience of the city.

The annual report from Idaho Health and Welfare can be found at https://healthandwelfare.idaho.gov/Portals/0/Health/Statistics/2016-Reports/2016_Abortion.pdf.

Rather than protecting Idaho’s most vulnerable, this agency is reporting the state’s legal induced abortions with copious details. These abortions, protected by federal law, take place in large numbers within the city limits of Twin Falls, Idaho.

According to Idaho Health and Welfare, induced abortions are defined as “a legal medical procedure that is intended to terminate a pregnancy without a live birth.”

Those are not my words, they are the words selected by the Idaho Health and Welfare Department.

If words mean anything, and they do, then every word here needs to be examined. Induced: this word describes an action that is “produced” or “caused” by an outside force acted upon another. Abortion: “the act producing young before the natural time or before the fetus is perfectly formed. In the figurative sense, any fruit or produce that does not come to maturity, or any thing which fails in its progress, before it is matured or perfect. The fetus brought forth before it is perfectly formed. The termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.”

By definition alone, using our English words we are saying in broad daylight that induced abortions are outside acts introduced to a living embryo or fetus (human, person). This is a forced act upon the embryo or fetus to stop (read that again, To STOP) it from naturally growing to maturity. Forcing the embryo or fetus to die before it is matured.

It’s right there in the words. But there’s more to observe.

What “medical” procedures need a qualifier of “legal”? Obviously, the full definition of “Induced Abortion” needs this qualifier to keep the conscience at arms length, quiet, and sitting in the corner. If the definition of “Induced Abortion” by the Idaho Health and Welfare did not include the word “legal”, no one with an awakened conscience would allow this to continue as it is. The word “legal” is more like a gag and a blindfold for the conscience of our community.

Read that definition again without the word “legal.”

A medical procedure that is intended to terminate a pregnancy without a live birth.”

We could finish the examination of the definition, but it is clear. This induced act is intended to terminate a pregnancy without a live birth. I can’t ever read that without the sound of every word crying out to my conscience to wake up.

Now, in closing, consider the statistics.

In 2016, in the city of Twin Falls, according to the Idaho Health and Welfare Vital Statistics, there were 242 “induced abortions”; that is, 242 medical procedures intended to terminate a pregnancy without a live birth.

You read that right, 242 forced terminations of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.

God have mercy on the city of Twin Falls.

Be Strong and Show Yourself A Man

Visit and sign the online statements (after signing, be sure to check for a confirmation email, likely in your “spam” folder.)

King David left these words “Be strong and show yourself a man” with his son Solomon while he was near his death. I think King David understood that the path of a nation depended upon men being godly men. I think it is fair to say in our culture it is equally as vital that women show themselves to be godly women.

Unstable days call for a stable people serious about their God.

Yes, most of my blog posts in January, February and March are usually with a bit of political attention. These are some of the most active days in the shaping of what one can expect it to be like to live in the state of Idaho.

Recently, I’ve asked some men and women in my church to help me call the church across the state of Idaho to be strong. This is a day for God’s people to be ready to speak up, show yourself. This is not a day to fight for individual comforts, this is clearly a day to glorify the only Living, Triune God and give a report in the land of Him for all God image bearers in the land.

There are three statements (see below) I want to get into the hands of as many Idaho residents as possible and then to get them to be strong. I have a limited scope of influence throughout the state of Idaho. I’m not an event promoter, I’m not an activist organizer. I’m first and foremost a preacher. I need the help of God’s people to share this on every available platform you have.

My public figure Facebook page is likely not far from being restricted by Facebook from engaging in a “political cause”. I’m not bothered by that, it’s just a possibility. Because I have engaged in a politically charged arena, I am getting communication about my page and that I may not be authorized to promote such things of such politically charged topics. I’ll use the platform as long as I can keep it without compromising my own conscience on any other request from Facebook.

Here’s what you can do to help (this is not a formal petition) this is an agreed upon statement so that when I speak to the state legislators if this matter goes to debate I can speak with an agreed upon, unified voice from across the state.

  • Pray
  • Ask your pastor to print and make available printed versions of these three statements to your church family to sign. Contact me for a mailing address and send them to me by the end of February. (This is no day to fear what men might do.)
  • Post this to your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  • Send emails to your friends with a link to this post.
  • Visit and sign the online statements (after signing, be sure to check for a confirmation email, likely in your “spam” folder.)
  • Print versions (contact me with a mailing address)

I have only one interest in this. The Glory of God alone. My duty in this is to first and foremost be an ambassador of Christ’s reconciliation. It is to herald the Gospel and give a report of God. Join me in calling our state to look unto God and be saved. You may have another motivation, but this is mine and all who sign these statements.

His grace and mercy be upon us.

Sex Abuse of Children in Southern Baptist Churches

Yesterday, February 10, 2019 I read the Houston Chronicle report (1 of 3) about a long standing issue among churches (not just Roman Catholic). It will turn your stomach. This time it is close to home.

For clarity: Southern Baptists do function differently than most other denominations. Inside of the SBC, a local church is a local church. For example, Eastside Baptist Church in Twin Falls, is made up of a congregation of believers who determine everything this local church does. No one in the denomination dictates or instructs this local fellowship in how to do “church.”

That said, we may be a denomination of independent churches but we are also closely related. What happens in Houston is not what happens in Twin Falls. But what this report disclosed is that there is likely more to pay attention to in this in every local church.

This kind of sin must be dealt with. And sins against humanity like this must be given to local authorities as soon as it is discovered.

It is past time for every local church to rethink how and what church activities are safe and unsafe, or potentially unsafe, and address them all, immediately.

It will be an uncomfortable discussion, but it must take place.
