The Pastors of Idaho Mercy Statement

Lord, I have heard the report about You and I fear.
O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years,
In the midst of the years make it known;
In wrath remember mercy.

The Pastors of Idaho Mercy Statement
a favorable statement in response to the introduction of the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act of 2019

To the Elected Leaders of the People of the State of Idaho,

The following statement is a unified voice from evangelical pastors of local autonomous churches across the state of Idaho. The signatures represent an overwhelming support of the Idaho Human Rights Act introduced for consideration in the first regular session of 2019 by Rep. Heather Scott and Rep. John Green. The churches we pastor represent tens-of-thousands of like minded citizens who support this bill.

We desire to live in an orderly, safe, respectful state as instructed by Scripture and our love for our God. This is what pleases God and is a result of this intended relationship with the Creator.  We respect and appreciate that there are laws that direct and restrict our daily activity. We yield to code because we know that a flourishing state and existence demands it.

It is right and fitting, which our current Idaho code states, that the intentional taking of another life is murder. Such devious acts against a neighbor would require every citizen in the state to cry for justice if an innocent life was murdered.

Today, we speak for the innocent child in the womb. A life that begins at fertilization and conception. We speak with a unified voice for these children, citizens in the wombs of women within the state of Idaho.

Our supreme authority is the Almighty, Triune God, as described by the Bible. It is very clear that our God is the Creator of life, and holds the sanctity of life with high regard. He proclaimed this very clearly in Psalm 139:13-16 when it says, “For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.” There are many verses that give us a strong indication that God upholds the sanctity of life. (Jer. 1:5; Psalm 127:3-5; Gen. 1:27…) With God’s authority over all creation, we are pleased to submit to our state government as it aligns with God’s truth. We speak in favor of the proposed Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act and are in agreement with article 1 of the Constitution of the State of Idaho.

Article 1: Declaration of Rights – INALIENABLE RIGHTS OF MAN. All men are by nature free and equal, and have certain inalienable rights, among which are enjoying and defending life and liberty; acquiring, possessing and protecting property; pursuing happiness and securing safety.

We hereby appeal to our elected lawmakers to establish laws that will ensure this right be properly applied to every child in the womb. We even go as far as to stand ready to make available safe homes to every unwanted child within the land. We give our hearty agreement with the proposed language of the Idaho Abortion Human Rights Act. We are asking you to do what is right in the eyes of God and pass this bill.

As you look to pass this bill, know we will be praying for you. May our God bless you and your discourse of this proposed bill with articulate arguments to give unquestionable clarity to the matter of life. Do what is honorable to God and His truth as we know the nation will be seeing what Idaho will do according to this issue.  May God raise up a state in this Great United States of America who will stand up for life, and may that state be Idaho.
