The Most Spectacular Knitting Factory In The Universe: The Womb

Guest writer: “Bear” Morton, pastor of Magic Valley Bible Church Twin Falls, Idaho

“Is an abortion acceptable or even Biblical for cases of rape and incest? The definitive answer is NO! I want to think that those who support such an idea have good intentions. They want to show compassion to the victim. But in all reality there are two victims here. The mother and her conceived baby. Would we ever punish a living child outside of the womb for someone else’s sins? Of course not. So why would we want to abort a child in the womb as if they were the perpetrator? What sin did he or she commit? Don’t think this is outside of God’s sovereign reign. It is not. And by all means do not even think that God is the one who ordained the sin. He did not. But let me ask you this question, does God ever say to anyone, in the Bible that He wants you to respond to a sin with another sin? And of course the answer is no. Why on earth would we even think that way?

God creates life. King David says in Psalm 139:13-16 in response to the omnipotent God,

“For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written. The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.”

Psalm 139:13-16

Such an abortion, or for that matter, any abortion destroys the life of another victim. Oh and by way of statistics, USA today says out of all the reasons why women have abortions only 1% happened because of rape and less than 0.5% was a result of incest (USA Today, May 24, 2019). I am one who does not rely on statistics or say they have much authority but I think you can see how little this ever comes up as a reason for anyone to abort a child. More importantly, God is our authority and He says no to any kind of abortion. To be pro-life is to be pro-child no matter the reason. For Idaho’s sake there is only one bill that will end all abortions in the state of Idaho and that is HB361. As a pastor and a father of 5 girls, I plead you to submit to the God of the Bible and obey His truth. All abortions are sin. Is there grace in Christ? You bet there is, but our mindset shouldn’t be “oh God will forgive me.” Those thoughts are just as sinful. Trust in the One who creates life. Trust in His truth, for He is the only One who has authority on this issue.”

In Christ and His truth alone,
Pastor Bear
